The Day Chapter Seven Took Over
Every writer has that moment—the one chapter, scene, or sentence that doesn’t feel like it came from them at all. For me, that moment happened in 1998, inside a quiet corner of a hospital in Perth, Western Australia, while I was working there. I had no idea that what I was about to write would become one of the most unforgettable creative experiences of my life.
It happened during the creation of Chapter Seven in The Experiment, the first story in The Dark Secret of Ian’s Peak: Book One. Even now, decades later, I can still feel the electricity of that moment.
⚡ The Trance That Changed Everything
I sat down at the computer like it was any other writing session. No expectations. No plan for anything dramatic. But the moment my fingers touched the keyboard, something shifted.
It was as if the story grabbed me by the collar and said, “Sit down. You’re not in control anymore.”
My hands started typing faster than my thoughts could keep up. The words poured out—raw, intense, unstoppable. I wasn’t crafting sentences; I was witnessing them. It felt like I had stepped out of my own body and was watching someone else write the chapter for me.
There was a point where the emotion in the scene hit so hard that I physically had to pull away from the computer. I remember sitting back, heart racing, thinking:
What on earth just happened?
That chapter was powerful—so powerful that I couldn’t go back to it for more than two weeks. Every time I tried, the memory of that trance-like state came rushing back. It wasn’t frightening… but it was overwhelming. Like touching something too hot to hold.
When I finally returned to the manuscript, I realised something important:
Chapter Seven wasn’t just written. It was channeled.
And it became one of the defining moments of the entire Ian’s Peak universe.
🧠 Do Other Writers Experience This?
Absolutely. And it’s one of the most fascinating, mysterious parts of the creative world.
Some call it “flow state.” Some call it “creative possession.” Some call it “the muse taking over.”
But whatever name you give it, the experience is the same: A moment where the story writes you instead of the other way around.
Authors, musicians, painters, filmmakers—many have described moments where time disappears, the world fades out, and something deeper takes the wheel. It’s rare, unpredictable, and unforgettable.
And if you’ve ever experienced it, you know exactly what I mean.
💬 Tell Me Your Story
I’d love to hear from readers, writers, creators, and anyone who’s ever had a moment where inspiration hit so hard it felt supernatural.
Have you ever:
Written something you don’t remember typing?
Created a scene that felt like it came from somewhere outside yourself?
Had to step away because the emotion was too strong?
Lost track of time because the story took over?
Share your story below—as long as it doesn’t start with “This is a story of a lovely lady…” (We all know where that one goes.)
Your stories are part of what makes this community so special. And who knows—maybe your moment of creative lightning will inspire the next chapter of Ian’s Peak.
